The Seven Fountains community have been hard at work making “EcoBricks”. The children have had great fun learning how to conserve the environment with our latest community programme.
An EcoBrick is a plastic bottle packed tightly with clean and dry, non-biodegradable waste. These bottles can then be used as building materials to create insulative structures and colourful furniture.
EcoBricking is simply a case of forming a habit – rather than throwing your wrapper in the bin, just stuff it into a disposable bottle that you keep next to your sink or bin.
This is a great eco-friendly initiative to get rid of plastic in the community. Not only will this reduce the amount of plastic waste, it will also be beneficial in the long run as the community will be able to build something useful once they have accumulated enough EcoBricks.
We are so thankful for Charmain Gradwell, Lalibela’s Head of Community Development, for coming up with this wonderful project for our community and for helping them to build a brighter and cleaner future.
We cannot wait to see what the community build with their Ecobricks!
